    Join the New Ulm Public Library for an engaging class with artisan Sue Happel, of Village Arts and Pottery in Searles, on Monday, May 10, 2021 at 6:00 PM. Sue will teach about the history of jewelry making and then guide participants through crafting their own simple jewelry piece. The class will run about 2 hours and is free and open to the public, but registration is required to participate. Class size is limited to 10 people, so call the library at 507-359-8331 to register or click the register link on this page.

  5. Needleworking Group

    Come work on your needle working project in a fun group every first and third Wednesday of the month from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM at the library! The group is not a class and is designed for ages 16 and up. All types of needlework are welcome, and you can come when you're able and leave when you need. We hope to see you there!

  6. Suminagashi Paper Marbling Class

    May 20, 2021, 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM @ New Ulm Public Library meeting room

    Suminagashi or “floating ink” is an ancient paper marbling technique that involves using ink and a resist in a pan of water to create a sequence of rings that are transferred to paper. The resulting prints can then be used for book binding and art projects. Join us on Thursday, May 20, 2021 at 4:00 p.m. for a Creative Bug tutorial about the process with instructor Jody Alexander. Then, get a chance to create your own marbled paper. This class is for ages 8 and above and will be held in the library's meeting room. All materials will be provided. Masks and social distancing are required. You may work at the same table with a family member that you currently live with, but each family member must register separately.   8. Japanese Side Sewn Book Binding

    May 27, 2021, 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM @ New Ulm Public Library meeting room

    Join us a for a quick and easy book binding lesson on Thursday May 27, 2021 at 4 p.m. You will watch a Creative Bug tutorial on side sewn book binding and then dig in and make one for yourself. If you attended the Suminagashi program you will be able to use the marbled paper you made in the creation of your book. If not, there will be a variety of paper to bind your book with on hand. This program is for ages 8 and above, and will take place in the Library Meeting room. All materials will be provided. Mask wearing and social distancing are required. If you wish to attend and work at the same table as a family member, each family member must register separately. You must be registered to participate.
